The residents of Gilmer County have access to a variety of health services. North Georgia Medical Center operates a 50-bed hospital, as well as a 100-bed nursing home. The hospital houses a clinic which offers a cardiologist, podiatrist, vascular surgeon, and gastroenterologist. Medical and surgical services offered include general, laser and laparoscopic surgery, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, pain management, physical therapy, orthopedics, surgical suites, a five-bed intensive care unit and social services. Medical imaging and diagnostic services include on-site mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CAT scans, radiology and laboratory. Numerous doctors practice in the community, along with dentists, optometrists and chiropractic clinics.

The local public health department offers various clinics, such as immunizations, family planning, cancer detection, blood pressure, and diabetes detection and control. Genesis Behavioral Health Care Services, Inc. and a satellite clinic of the Georgia Highlands Center are both located in Ellijay and offer services in the areas of social work, counseling, and guidance, alcohol and drug addiction, psychiatric consultation, and childhood and adolescent counseling.

The Emergency Management Agency provides emergency and convalescent ambulance services with personnel trained in basic medical and Advanced Life Support skills.

Goodwill Industries of North Georgia, Inc., Vocation Transitions Division, is a not-for-profit organization which contracts with the Division of Rehabilitation Services, Northwest Georgia Mental Health/Mental Retardation Regional Board, and local education agencies. They provide vocational services to assist individuals in going to work.
