Towns County has made vast improvements in infrastructure such as a new water and sewage treatment plant in Hiawassee, helping to attract new business and industry to the area while improving the quality of life.

Electricity:

A part of Georgia's modern integrated electrical transmission system, Hiawassee has excellent ability to supply industrial demands. Towns County is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority Electrical Distribution System. Electrical power is supplied through TVA by Blue Ridge Mountain EMC whose main office is located on Hwy. 76 in Young Harris. BRMEMC was organized in 1937 and is still operated as a non-profit, member-owned, Rural Electric Cooperative. The EMC now serves over 36,500 customers and will continue to grow with the community. Rates in this area are well below state and national averages.

Water:

Application is made at the City Halls for city water in Young Harris or Hiawassee. Towns County Water and Sewage Authority handles application for water in the county. You must go to their office, complete a Users Agreement Form and pay the required fee.

Phone:

Their name may be new, but their roots run deep. Headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., Windstream Communications offers phone, broadband and digital TV services, and has a long and proud history. Windstream was formed through the spinoff of Alltel's landline business and merger with VALOR Telecom. They believe their customers are better served by a company completely focused on providing advanced local communications and entertainment products and services.

Internet:

Local service is available through Windstream and Blue Ridge Mountain EMC. DSL is available through both companies.
